I love my elliptical. It fits quite nicely in a small corner of my room, comfortably sandwiched in between my bed, my newest dvd cabinet, and the baby-changing table dresser. When I'm on it I am eye level with the tv, which is perfect. I'd probably be on it more often, but as it is I like changing up my schedule with the things I do in my free times, which means NOT watching 4 hours worth of Heroes ever single night (as I can't seem to stop with just one episode per workout session).

I've managed to get my time up from 10min to 30min, and I've finally started adding pre-programmed "hills" into the routine. I've managed to go from getting my muscles used to this new repetitive motion to actually breaking out in a sweat and getting muscle fatigue and aches slightly later. This is a good thing, but I don't want to push it too much. So, I'll stick with the 30min level 1 hill I'm currently doing for a good couple of weeks. At least long enough that my thighs stop bugging me within a few hours of exercise. I'm currently actively trying to maintain a certain speed, which also forces a pretty good workout.

By the way, I do highly recommend this elliptical. It's amazingly quiet and compact (the floor creaking underneath is louder than the machine). The features I also purchased it for are the pre-programmed settings, the built-in water bottle holder and bottle, and its compactness, all of which I use quite often with the machine. Now I just have to get myself to start using it more often. I think this is easily remedied with the number of new dvds I just bought. :D

Yay! I finally got the elliptical out of the box and put together. I do love it's small footprint and general portability.

Now to get it moved into my room so I can start using it.

This will result in relocating a bunch of items that don't yet have new homes, and will undoubtedly be the catalyst for what the prophets have referred to as the coming Great Vacuuming of 2010. I may even see about borrowing my mom's Rainbow for this one.

I just bought an elliptical. After self-analyzing I have come to realize the basics of my world. I love to play games and watch the movies and tv shows I have in my possession. At the moment, this leaves little time for me to actually go outside and hop on my bike and ride around the block a few times. I will never say that I don't have time for working out. I have lots of time, but I also know myself and how I will choose to fill that time. I'm not much on self-delusion. Much.

So, the elliptical that will fit in my room and be quiet enough that I can sit walk while watching a tv show will work greatly in helping me knock two things off my to-do list: watch through all the tv shows I have horded and drink more water (because it comes with a water bottle holder).

Eat less sugars and carbohydrates (breads, pastas, potatoes)

Eat more Valium

...

I think I can handle this.

The sugars and carbs are in relation to my gradual weight gain.
The Valium is in regards to my constant neck and jaw pain.

Riding my bike two days a week to and from work will help with both.
I'm looking forward to it.

Walking

[livejournal.com profile] my_window_seat and I have started a little walking regime. Every Tuesday and Thursday before work we walk for about 15-30 minutes. It's sad that I can get so tired out just from walking briskly for such a short period of time.

This morning was a wonderful 81 degrees with a thick slab of 70-freaking % humidity. It was like walking through a cool jello. Getting back home to the wonderful dry A/C rooms was heaven.

I only hope I'm able to keep up the regime after she's moved, although I'll probably convert it to riding my bike around on the streets. I'm also thinking about ways that I can start riding my bike to and from work. This is a bit trickier as I never know when I'll have to make a run to the bank which sadly can only be done by car. Pondering.

I'm wondering if I could outfit an impromptu work out gym in the office. I never really thought about it before because I worked at a YMCA with a full gym, sauna and pool - everything a girl could ask for. Things I would include:

Speed jump rope, or this one, or this one [to leave whelps welts on your body when it hits]
mini-trampoline
pogo stick [$300 for a pogo stick!]
walking stilts [which I already own and can use just fine]
tennis ball and racket [ditto]
body wedge [that's cheaper than the Liberator - nsfw so I'm not posting, but you can look it up]
this little ab bench [because I REALLY miss seeing my abs]
floor mats for doing hand stands and somersaults
and a little something for aggression

As you can see, I'm not much for the standard form of workout equipment. Ellipticals are nice and all, but they are also boring as shit.

I had to use a balance board for physical therapy on my ankle after a 2nd degree sprain a few years back. Of course I also had to learn how to balance on that one ankle while standing on a trampoline and throwing a light medicine ball against another angled trampoline. I think physical therapists do nothing but come up with weird "exercises" just because they can. Like picking up marbles with your toes and putting them back in the jar.

This post has all been brought to you by my excessive need to want to get my body back into shape and my hyperness and bounciness at the moment looking forward to tomorrow. It's so pretty outside and I'm stuck at work. I want to go play.

This really is the worst week for me to even consider this concept, but I really am hankering for physical activity. I've been way too sedentary and I know this is starting to have a serious effect on so many aspects of my life. I'm depressed, I'm moody, I'm always tired and lazy, not to mention the feeling of orca blubberness I have for my body right now (yes I like my ass and I like my boobs and I like my profile curves, but I REALLY miss my seeing my abs and being able to tie my shoes without my belly getting in the way).

Listening to certain types of music makes me want to get up and dance, but I'm usually stuck at a computer. My new work schedule has me getting tired by 10pm so going out to The Church hasn't been very high on my list of things-to-do-today. I want to find a place where I can lay out a floor mat and get back into practicing hand stands for hours on end without having to pay an arm and leg for some class. I want an adult-sized old-fashioned metal (none of this plastic and wooden crap) monkey bars that I can climb around on. I want to dig my bicycle out of my parents' garage, fix it up and go riding around for a couple hours. I don't feel like jogging and I don't feel like joining a gym. I hate normal workout routines. I can maybe do some sit-ups, but that's about all I can stand. I'll still sometimes randomly do about 20 jumping jacks. At least it's something and better than nothing.

I still need to buy a jump rope for when I'm alone at work. I'll just keep reminding myself until my brain decides to remind me in conjunction with having time available to go and make such a purchase.
