Pieces of Me
A friend sent me a link to a really nifty online jigsaw puzzle, so I changed the piece count to around 500 and spent an evening finishing it off.
Then I did another puzzle the next night.
And then I remembered why I try to avoid online jigsaw puzzles in the first place.
My card table is covered with so much stuff that I haven't played a puzzle in probably a year, and that last one was my roommate's puzzle that he got and couldn't quite finish himself. I still need to finish the birthday puzzle the other roommate got me a few years ago that I had to set aside and put back into the box carefully, and just never got around to getting it back out.
Right now I'm working on knitting up a bunch of shawls, hopefully in time for Christmas, although I've been side-tracking myself from that project with games and shows and online puzzles, so we'll see if I come anywhere near my goal.
I've also spent a lot of time finally giving in to another passion of mine: Playing Card collecting.
It's a thing. It's a thing I've put off and put off for so many years, and I'm finally giving in to the madness. So now it's a thing I'm spending money on.
I was working a second part-time job at Six Flags as a Cash Control Teller to help boost my 401(k) savings and have a little extra spending money, but Six Flags Over Texas just went cashless, so our entire department was discontinued. I tried to move to another department within the park, but that wasn't for me, so I've left Six Flags employment altogether. I applied for a similar position at Brinks, but they are wanting 5 days a week and hours that cut into my day job. The pay is much better and with more hours will be even that much more in general, the drive a bit longer, and there will be much less of a chance to pick and choose my own work days. They said they will get back to me if they think they can work around my day job schedule. I do like working with cash and cash counting machines, but that job sounds more like a full-on 2nd job than just a "paid hobby" as I liked to refer to the Six Flags teller job. I haven't decided yet.
I'm going with the family next weekend to San Antonio. It's a trip we normally do once a year for a week during the summer, but of course, that didn't happen THIS year. It actually started with me mentioning the Drive-Thru State Fair of Texas food thingy, and possibly renting a mini-van for the day to do it, and then, well, if we already have the rental, how about a quick drive down to San Antonio. Hence, we nixed the State Fair idea and opted for a full couple of days in San Antonio. We miss it and everyone is going stir crazy. It'll be me, mom, my sister, 3 nephews and one nephew-girlfriend. We'll be getting two hotel rooms, spend a day at Six Flags, maybe hit the Natural Bridge Caverns for the rope climb, possibly do an Escape Room rental, swim in the hotel indoor pool, eat popcorn, watch a movie, and descend upon Czech Stop to and from. If there's time, we might also visit The Riverwalk and/or Downtown and/or Alamo for the n-gf, since I'm not sure what all she has or hasn't seen/done in San Antonio. Oh, and I'm making mom and sis turn my hair black and red at some point over the weekend.
The next Saturday is a Halloween party for which I'll be dressing up as a Dia De Los Muertos bride. I should have two sets of face decals delivered to the house before we go to San Antonio, so I'll be able to use one to test out and wear while at Six Flags. It'll give me a good idea on wearability, especially since I will also have a sugar skull mask that I will wear over the makeup. I'll be able to figure out if I can do both, or if I'll need to only do my upper face and just rely on the mask alone for the mouth area.
Uh...yeah, that's about all I got for now.
