Another New Arrival

One week after adopting the beautiful, loving, black-as-night Nix(sic) (pics here) into the commune, we have managed to come across a second, just as beautiful and loving calico/tabby kitten whom we have happily named Amber (pic here).
I would have named our black kitty Onyx had I adopted her myself, after the "precious gems" naming convention I have used with previous pets, so Kevin's choice of names is just as fitting. As for Amber, I did sort of use the same convention - the name came from the same image I linked to above while looking through other images of gems and such, but none seemed fitting enough. I'll admit, despite naming her Amber, I'm still not 100% on the name, but there were no full objections from the other commune members.
Eileen is looking for a house, so today she, Tom, Jeanne, and I met a realtor and her assistant(?) at the first house on the list. The house-hunting is another story which Eileen may or may not post about later. Needless to say, we walk up to the house and a kitten managed to arrive at the front door with us. She was meowing like crazing and rubbing along every leg known to man. As we were heading inside she also tried to sneak in. We pushed her back out. While searching around the Silent Hill House, Part Deux, we could hear her poor little mews from the door we came in. Next thing we knew she had managed to find a hole in the wall big enough to crawl through somewhere around the door and proceeded to tour the house with us. As we exited the house she continued walking along side the party at which point Eileen scooped her up and determined that she was now another passenger in the car.
We saw two more houses. During each drive Amber managed to purr like mad and knead air bread on a continual basis, all while meowing at the car ride in general. She kept curling up into my arms and rolling around to get comfy. She stayed in the car while we toured the next two houses. After that Eileen and I rode back to my work so as to introduce Kev to her, tell him about our adventures, feed him (and me!) lunch, and plot out our next plan of attack for the kitty. My regular vet was closed, but we were able to take her to PetSmart's vet for a quick check up. She's approximately 6mo old, has no signs of leukemia or pregnancy (an issue previously dealt with regarding Nix), but has a few fleas. She's been given a flea treatment which I also applied to Nix seeing as how Nix thinks that they should both be BFFs despite Amber's protesting.
Luckily, we don't exactly have a three-way cat fight in the apartment, and I'm hoping Amber will warm up to Nix so that they can be playmates. Sabrina, on the other hand, is quite bitter about the whole thing. There are now not one, but two kittens intruding on her territory, and Nix has already taken to fighting back in this scenario. Here's to hoping for a happy kitty household in the future. *fingers crossed*
