Russian Friends Are Back - PSA

I haven't been friended by a Russian LJ user/bot, but
geminibalance recently was.
As I noted down in her comments, it would appear that this might possibly be a legitimate LJ as it actually contains blogging posts, unlike all of the other Russian adds I've seen friends mention, but as I can't read Russian I can't be sure. (I'm planning for a friend who's taken a couple years of Russian to perhaps verify this for me.)
I also pointed out, I looked into one of the gadgets on this LJ's user profile page and if you get far enough it will ask you if you want the gadget to be auto-added to your profile page -- all you have to do is provide your LJ name and password.
I doubt I should have to tell this to any of my friends since I try to only harbor those with brains (the tastier for me to eat in case I ever turn into a brain-eating zombie), but I still would not be a good friend if I didn't put it into good ol' plain Engrish for all to see:
AVOID LIKE PLAGUE TEH INFO PAGE GADGET
Or at the very least, verify the coding for it and paste it manually yourself. I'm not bothering to tell you which gadget it was, because that is a moot point and irrelevant if even one of them turns out to be malicious.

Date: 2008-10-30 07:07 am (UTC)Yeah, it's this LJ user (http://plusninety.livejournal.com/profile), and more specifically this post (http://plusninety.livejournal.com/42264.html) that seems to be referencing (according to what I could read in English in the comments) the user images being mirrored back to the reader, although I can now see what appears to be
I know I've seen a lot of friends who have had what appear to be some sort of Russian LJ spam bots adding them as friends, but they never have any posts in the content area, unlike this one. I'm sorry I don't have an example to give at the moment as it's been quite a while since it was first mentioned. A co-worker mentioned one friending him the other day, but I won't see him again until Friday.
Also, in unrelated news, I noticed that you will be attending Saturday's festivities. YAY!! Let me know if you would like to come over earlier and hang out with me before folks start showing up. Will Este also be coming?

2. если возникли какие-либо вопросы - писать сюда (ответ на него скорее всего здесь, но если там нет ответа на ваш вопрос, так задайте его, однако я практически уверен, что ответ на ваш вопрос здесь!)
if u have any questions - ask here, but I'm sure u'll find the answer here
2. If you have any questions, write them here (The answer is likely here, but if there isn't an answer to your question here, then ask it), but I am almost sure that the answer to your question is here!)
- Both times he or she mentioned the word здесь, meaning "here", it is linked to the page http://mcsochi.livejournal.com/39075.html
3. в моем журнале обычно не много буков, много фотографий Сочи и Армении
3. My journal is usually not a lot of sounds, a lot of photographs of "Sochi" and Armenia.
4. приветствуется если вы напишите чего-нибудь о себе
4. You are welcome if you write something about yourself.
5. личное записи в режиме незнакомые-онли
5. Personal record in the unfamiliar online...? The sentence ends before you get to a verb.
The image in the upper-left hand corner is a link to mogupic.bml, a LJ script that residues images which are too large to display in their size block. It dynamically loads the user's larger image based on their login cookie.

Date: 2008-10-30 09:34 pm (UTC)I will be coming to the party if at all possible, and will try to come a bit early. We'll see how this weekend ends up working out, though--I've got a major exam on Tuesday which may take most of my weekend in studies. I'll let you know soon either way.
**hugs**

Date: 2008-10-30 10:25 pm (UTC)These Russian LJ folks are an odd bunch. I wonder why they friend so many unsuspecting people.
As far as I know I should be home most of Saturday unless we for some reason head out to buy stuff for the party. I'd say just give me a call when you are ready to come over if it's before the scheduled party time. If not, then I really do hope you can at least make it for the party and I will see you then. :)
