The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Moffat Back in Time
Aug. 1st, 2018 09:17 amThe Girl in the Fireplace was my most favorite episode prior to the airing of Heaven Sent. It had a heart-wrenching feeling that combined the laughs of Doctor Who (Rose and Micky on board the ship, with a horse), a bad-guy mystery to be solve by the white knight, and the true feeling of love and loss that accompanies time travel.
It's why I had a good cry when River commented that there will be a day worse than the death of the Doctor for her, and then that briefest of moments when she later stated, "...and a last." The moment flew by quickly for the show, since it had to get on with the plot, but I had to pause the show for it's proper due respect. That was quite an important moment for the character of River. THAT was a death scene that was glossed over, because the audience had to sympathize with the Doctor instead of with River, who happened to be in that elated state after saving the day and finding out the answer to a gigantic riddle. Of course the focus couldn't dwell on River. It never has. The Husbands of River Song make that point very clear, that our focus has followed the focus of the Doctor, with only rare and sublime glimpsed moments into the mind of River. Her monologue breakdown in that episode rightly chastising him hits where it counts, at least for a moment, which again is all we ever really get from River. The moment blows by as she's snapped back to the here and now and back out of her head where things really suck if she dwells too long on them.
But that's when you stop for a moment to focus on the women that have endured and the strength that they have to feel these emotions but to go on with their lives after those moments have passed. They have to snap out of it or else they themselves would drown in emotion. Some people do allow their lot in life to determine their life, and they never snap out of it. You can't say the Doctor wasn't at all affected by the knowledge of his loves lost. We, as the audience, though, had to feel it with him and not with her.
That's where The Time Traveler's Wife takes all of those moments and flips them on their head. There is much more focus on her and what she goes through. There's still not quite as much focus as I'd like to see, and perhaps I'll see more of that focus if I read the book, but as the name implies, we're meant to feel along with her more so than him, even though the movie perspective is his.
The Girl in the Fireplace has a special place in my heart, along with all of those string-tugging moments of River's. And now I know why those moments were so strong for me.

Another Not Quite Human Thing
Aug. 1st, 2018 08:47 am( Still regarding the show )
Also, I now want there to be a singer named Master V who looks like Odi and rocks it to light jazz and serene spa music to go with the green grass motif.

Which Came First...
Nov. 25th, 2017 11:21 am...the Song or the Melody?

ONE MONTH! Awaiting semi-patiently. As usual, I'm sure the Christmas special will have a bittersweet ending. Love Live The Doctor!
Can't wait to see the new desktop, since I'm pretty sure the appearance of the key and TARDIS is the result of it waking up from a reboot of some sort. However, we usually don't get to see the new desktop until the next season starts, so I'll have to be doubly patient for that.
In the meantime, let's discuss clothing:

Jolly Difficult
Jul. 24th, 2017 11:28 am"Jolly the Pimp" image search only comes up with a single image of Ethan Hawke's character in Valerian, and it's an image out of a teaser book sent to press agents around the same time as the first trailers were being shown titled 100 Days of Valerian.
The same also goes for searching for inter-dimensional space market guide Thaziit.
So much for trying to get a better look at the characters through a basic internet search.

Movie Review
Jun. 21st, 2017 12:40 amI've been watching the Resident Evil movies, and this evening I watched No. 4: Afterlife.
I agree with Kevin, the soundtrack is awesome.
As far as the movie review goes, I think Ultraviolet should have gotten an award compared to this.
The first 15 minutes was just to tie up loose ends from the previous movie - bring in the clones, kill them off, pick up Ali Larter, and then move on to this movie - because fuck all of those meaningless loose ends.
Air Raid Siren (this wasn't as important at first, but proved prophetic to the rest of the movie, as you shall see)
At 1 hour in I was bored and trying to keep myself awake.
Then Pyramid Head showed up, and they got their peanut butter in my chocolate, and I figured someone secretly switched out the video game in the console when the writers were halfway through with the script. Yeah, I know the Executioner is from the actual Resident Evil game franchise, but still....AIR RAID SIREN!
Predictable plot is predictable.
Oh, look, it's the guy (Wentworth Miller) who played the whiny brother in Dinotopia. Seriously, I will always remember him as the whiny brother in Dinotopia. HAHA - I totally didn't mean to predict he was going to be a whiny brother in this movie too.
I got gypped out of getting to see the special effects of the "urban pacification vehicle" mow down a bunch of zombies. Instead, I got a stupid blood trail from a tiny prop plane from way up high, which, by the way, I don't think would have survived that little run in with hundreds of zombies. Cheap.
Fog out of freaking nowhere - see I told you they got my Silent Hill into their Resident Evil.
White room getting tainted with blood. Okay, so not quite the hell world of Silent Hill, but still...

Thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Brandy and My Sweet Lord are stuck in my head on repeat.
It could be worse.
Speaking of which, when I was in Spanish classes, we learned the translation for and meaning behind La Bamba. It's like the complete opposite of the meaning behind Brandy. Or maybe just a prelude to Brandy - make her swoon with your Captain's charm, and then dump her like the sea bitch you really are. This was the plot of John Wayne's Seven Sinners, which was probably my most favorite of all his gazillion movies, because the focus was on the woman, not the man or the battle or the posse. Would he give up his life in the Navy to marry the girl at the bar, the girl he fought the other Navy officers and local boss man over?
Incidentally, that movie is the reason I have coveted a wingback rattan chair since just about forever. It's Bijou's favorite seat. Oh my, it's on sale.

You know how TV shows will have Christmas Specials and Halloween Specials, so that when you go back decades later and watch them on DVD you knew when it was Halloween week and Christmas week, and sometimes Sweeps week because of all the TV show crossovers?
I've been watching Boardwalk Empire during my elliptical workouts, and I decided I would throw an extra workout in this evening. It's easier to do at the moment, since we're short roommates in the room next to mine, so I don't have to try to get the workout in earlier in the day before they go to sleep, as I worry the elliptical and TV sounds will be too loud.
So, at 9pm I decide to jump into a workout. I'm on episode 5 of season 2, and it just so happens to be set on Memorial Day, 1921. It's not like I knew it was going to be set for Memorial Day, but I still thought it was quite a fitting nightcap for this evening.
Incidentally, this episode first aired on October 23, 2011, a far cry from Memorial Day.

3-Named Nobody
Mar. 17th, 2017 11:05 pmEileen showed us living room viewers the George R. R. Martin and Stephen King mutual interview, and King was talking about how we always remember the killers but rarely the victims.
It got me to thinking about a story plot, something along the lines of a Black Mirror episode, where potential victims become major celebrities a la royalty, dead victims become saints, and somehow an entire society manages to revolve around these concepts. People WANT to be attempted murder victims. Sociopaths/psychopaths are welcomed and even nurtured. Attemptees, as they are called, become the tabloid fodder, the socialites to see and be seen with (kind of like the survivors of the Hunger Games in a way). They get sponsorships and interviews and even movie offers. Oh, and someone who has been a Double or even A Fated Triple Attemptee© - those rare folks are set for life.
The internal struggle of the story could actually be with one of the psychopaths. They are like the equivalent of stunt doubles. Nobody actually knows who they are. They can walk around in full daylight and nobody recognizes them except for the occasional oddball fan that for some reason bothers to look up and research mass killers. And this person, this otherwise-would-be-famed murderer actually wants his moment in the spotlight. Maybe one of his fans keeps pushing him to get into the spotlight. Thus the story begins, with one hopeful psychopath, looking to tell his story...
I don't know, just brainstorming an idea out loud.

Fantasy Island
Feb. 23rd, 2017 08:07 amFantasy Island got a minor reboot in 1998/99, and I 1)totally missed it, and 2)actually had hopes for it given its cast.
With the reboot of so many other shows, I keep wondering if they'll try to reboot Fantasy Island again. After all, it's now been almost 20 years since the last reboot. (Good grief, I feel old.)
Speaking of Mädchen Amick (she was in the reboot with Malcolm McDowell), this is my friendly reminder to myself that it's a'comin'.
