I am disappointed that River didn't make even a brief guest appearance in the Doctor Who Christmas special. There was a reference, a very heavy-handed reference, to the marriage with the falling off of the ring**, and I always thought it was interesting that it wasn't until Capaldi that there was a ring being worn at all, even though it was Matt Smith that spent all his time with River.

** I've been corrected. The ring falling off was a reference to a comment made by Two that his ring no longer fit after regeneration.

Admittedly, the Christmas special two years ago was all about River, and last year's special decided to end on a stupid sourly sad note reminding us about not having River around for another Christmas (much like anyone else trying to celebrate the holidays the year after someone's death).

But, I was still a little disappointed that I didn't get to see Alex Kingston one last time, whereas Moffat just didn't feel comfortable with the Doctor not remembering Clara so as to deus ex machina the shit out of that farewell scene. He did the same with showing Matt Smith's Doctor Amy, but then she was still in his mind, so that one at least made some sense that he was simply remembering and saying goodbye in his mind.

And, I'm still puzzled over Cyber Bill magically dying, and the roommate was puzzled over the Pilot not noticing the Testimony must have been out and about, busily so, on the Mondasian colony ship.

The ring falling off was actually a nod to the regeneration from first to second Doctor. Troughton's Doctor notes that his ring does not fit anymore. The first Doctor used the ring on occasion to hypnotize people.

Capaldi's Doctor wore a ring to hide his wedding ring, which he apparently can't get off anymore and wasn't about to destroy.

Really, I'm going to guess Testimony nabbed a copy of Bill after she had a hole shot through her chest. The Pilot never would have seen any of it, or just may have allowed it.

Honestly, I was more disappointed it was Bill and not Susan they brought back. Susan would have been a better call-back. I've always wondered what happened to her (and maybe her descendants?) after she was left behind on Earth.

Susan would have definitely been better, especially since it took my brain quite a while to understand how Bill could be running around out in the universe with the Pilot and yet also be a glass person.

Also, I'd like to witness a 3-way fight over a person's mind: Testimony, the 3W Nethersphere, and the Teselecta
