The previous update was all about the house stuff, so here's another update.

Work Stuff

I'm coming up on a year on this contract working under my friend that managed to steal me away from my previous contract when they didn't renew it in time, so she got to take advantage of that loophole. As a recap, they offered me a position as Senior Director of Accounting, reporting to the CFO and supervising the Director of Accounting (my friend who is still currently my supervisor), the A/P Manager (who already comes to me pretty much daily with her woes), the Payroll Manager, and the Financial Systems Manager (DON'T call her the Cash Management Manager -- whatever) who oversees what I call the Quantum Entanglement of Departments, because it houses GL and Project creation, Cash Management (a.k.a. Treasury), Cash Accounting, and Financial Reporting all in one department, which creates so much conflict of interest as to be laughable.

They put out the job description and I applied. Then the next thing I know my qualifications are being scrutinized by the Chief Counsel, asking how many years experience in accounting do I have and how many accounting credit hours do I have, and I have no experience in a medical field, all of which I was able to counter. That included my year and a half working in the cognitive psychology lab running experiments from scratch, meaning budgeting, getting IRB approval, procuring all the materials, creating the experimental protocol and programming the programs that were used, training 10 undergraduates, and then the actual act of running participants, summarizing reports, and presenting data at a couple of conferences. It's not hospital work, but it could just as easily be any set of disability clients that the company with which I'm contracted helps and/or mental hospital populations. Not to mention, it's not required for an accountant to have medical experience, nor is it mentioned as a requirement on the job description, so I was more than a bit perturbed that I was being questioned so deeply and no one was bothering to actually interview me regarding my qualifications. Instead everything was going through the CFO who was pulling his hair out considering the wall he was hitting while trying to get me hired into the position HE wanted for me.

Eventually the CEO sat the CFO down and said there wasn't money in the budget for what he wanted. So he started rearranging things. The Financial Systems Manager was given an ultimatum, er, option, to either keep her title and go under the Director of Finance, or to become the Cash Manager and stay were she was. Either way, the GL and Project creation and the Financial Reporting would be moving to under the Director of Finance and the Cash Manager would ONLY handle Treasury and Cash Accounting. No more quantum entanglements. She opted to keep her title and move to under Finance. Which then freed the CFO up to create a new manager position.

They put out the Treasury Manager job description and I applied. They called and offered the position to me, but at less than what I'm making now, so I counter offered, and that's where we're at. The counter offer is MUCH less than what I was expecting to make as a Senior Director, not surprisingly, but to make the initial offer be less than I'm making now ... uh, no thanks. So, now I wait while the counter offer goes through it's red tape hoops.

Medical Stuff

After having two blood clots in my legs, I eventually went to the vascular surgeon, and last Monday they performed two procedures to shut down the greater saphenous vein in my left leg. The top section was shut down using ablation and the bottom section using foam scleropathy. I'm still wearing the boa constrictor they call a compression stocking most days, and there's still pain in the lower ankle area that flares up at times and the foot area likes to swell. Everything says the foam scleropathy can take longer to heal, so I'm just biding my time. The one week follow-up confirmed that the vein was still closed completely, so the pain is from the scar tissue nature of the "intentional damage" to the vein.

Yesterday I started week 20 of 20 of my Invisalign treatment. I have the follow-up for that next week, and from what I've read I might have to keep week 20 trays in for around 4 weeks while the teeth settle into their final resting place and then we can remove the cement teeth spikes and go to a permanent retainer. Or some process thereof.

I was not able to give the big vampires my blood this month, because it was only days after the vein surgery, so instead I gave the little vampires some blood last Friday to be tested for tomorrow's PCP appointment. I'm still on the verge on anemia, Vitamin D is still low, and I just barely pinged pre-diabetic, which I had a feeling was coming. Definitely time to fix the dietary issues for good. Doctor will go over everything with me tomorrow morning, and I'll nod like a bobble head understanding everything I need to do.

Next up, Halloween costume pics!
