2020-20 20/20
So, I posted about my last day of 2020.
A roommate shared a meme with me the other day around the time of the storming of the castle (Congress) saying something along the lines of, "Dear 2021, the 7-day trial has been utterly disappointing, and I'd like my money back." My comment to that was that he didn't read the fine print - we didn't just get 2020, we got 2020-20: a year + 20 days for added measure.
My COVID-19 test came back on Saturday, Jan 2, at around 7:30pm, as negative. The first thing I did was receive a hug from a roommate. I chatted a bit, and then about an hour into "emergence" was when I broke down crying just from thinking again about Zee and probably overall emotions releasing. Roommate came back and had a little hug and cry with me.
Enter Week 1
My first week back at work was after having to take the equivalent of two weeks out of the month off and only having had 3 horrific days to work on December's accounting. Then, we started our month-end process, which is always a normal Week From Hell, but we also have the Special Week From Hell (quarterly close) and the Extra Special Week From Hell (year-end close plus auditors breathing down our necks). So, I've got a ton of work stress on me, and I still hadn't finished my usual Dec workload going into the Ex-Spec Hell Week.
Enter stomach migraines. Basically, it's like food poisoning, in that the entire digestive tract is ridiculously painful for a while and then finally screams, "EVACUATE - ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!". But unlike food poisoning, stomach migraines for me only last a few hours until the digestive tract has been cleared and life returns to normal. I seem to be plagued by them at night. I've also had 3 in the last 2 weeks. I'm blaming the bulk of them on stress.
Enter a bruise-ish.
Some time last week, while nursing Zee and hibernating in my room, I managed to get a bruise on the inside-side of my left knee. I have no idea where it came from. I couldn't recall running into anything with my legs. And the bruise was pretty deep - nothing physical to see at all, but painful to the touch.
Wed, Jan 6 - The bruise is a bit bothersome when I go to sleep. During the night it manages to get so bad I can't sleep at all. The whole side of my knee is starting to feel like I'd been hit with a baseball bat there. I can't sleep. Every position hurts horribly.
Thurs, Jan 7 - I make an appointment with my doctor's nurse practitioner. She examines and sees the same thing me and a roommate could see - absolutely nada. But I can't walk. Just about any leg movement hurts like hell. So, she sends me for an x-ray and gets me a prescription for a topical NSAID. I go get those done. I missed a couple hours of work, but I had worked late the day before (because remember, this is Ex-Spec Hell Wk). I worked a little more that evening to try and get some more work done, since I haven't been able to concentrate very much with all the pain I'm feeling in my leg. That night, while getting ready for bed and about to put on the ointment, I could now see a very large red area and could feel a knot under the skin. I put on the ointment and tried to sleep. It was slightly less painful than the night before, but still caused a lot of tossing and turning and wincing.
Fri, Jan 8 - I put in a call to the doctor's office to tell them of the change. They call me a few hours later around lunch time and want me to go get an MRI. I manage to get it approved by insurance and scheduled for 3:30 in the afternoon. The pain in my leg has subsided a bit, although it still hurt to walk properly, but the redness and knot had gotten bigger. I'm told it might be as late as Tues before they have results. At 6:30pm, the nurse practitioner called after receiving the test results and Highly Encouraged me to go to the ER and get a venous ultrasound, and not to wait through the weekend. I arrived around 7:30pm to the hospital, filled with people, mostly there for COVID issues, and me freaking out that I have to be there at all. They manage to get me into triage within about 10min and then allowed me to wait in my car since I had a very recent negative test result to show and they'd rather keep me that way. I was in my car almost exactly 3 hours between 8pm-11pm when they called to say they had a treatment room for me. The nurse and doctor and ultrasound tech took care of me and I was back home by 2am.
Superficial Thrombophlebitis
Blood clot, but in a vein closer to the skin so not as worrisome as a Deep Vein Thrombosis. I got a prescription of heavy duty aspirin and sent on my way.
The whole time, I still had at least 2 hours worth of accounting journal entries to work on, and plenty of other entries that will just have to wait until later.
I'm still not even half way through my 20-day added carryover of the 2020 Special Hell Deal.
Here's to hoping the next week is less doctor-and-hospital-visity.
