Sideways Rocker

I had the opportunity to purchase a Tell City Rocking Chair at an estate sale sometime last year (I don't remember when now), and I regret that I didn't make the purchase. I want a rocker, and this one was the perfect fit and feeling when I tried it out, which is something a lot of people don't consider when buying a rocker without sitting in it first. However, I wasn't sure where I would put it in the house and didn't want it stored out in the non-climate-controlled garage here or shed at my parents' house.
Regardless, I tend to look up Tell City Rockers online periodically, and I came across this Unique Sideways Rocker, black and gold hitchcock, being sold for $395 on eBay. I can't say that I've ever come across a sideways rocker, and now I'm utterly intrigued, if for no other reason than just to see how it feels rocking side-to-side.

This is a unique Tell City SIDEWAYS Rocker....so unique that I can only get very limited information from trusted brand sources. What I do know is that the style you see frequently (and one is currently listed) is D650 1/2. This chair, however, is style S D650 1/2...From the information I have gathered it either stands for Sample or Sideways. Either way - it's a charmer! The chair is simply uniquely beautiful. When I saw it, I had to have it. That being said, after 3 1/2 years of trying to finds it's perfect location in my 2 homes - I have come up empty. It was going to take a stately place near a wood-burning stove, but during building we moved the location of the stove and the rocking chair no longer fits into the plans.
It is a beautiful black rocker, with original stenciling. It rocks beautifully and is so cool because it can nearly back up to a wall without taking up much room. And the amazing sideways rocking motion is quite comforting. It has a couple of small linear cracks in the seat, which are easily fixed. It does not alter the appearance or use of the chair, and the size of the cracks has not changed in 3 1/2 years of use. Carpenter husband says they are not likely to increase in size at this point.
Pick-up can be arranged for either Southern California (OC or Inland Empire) or Northern Arizona.
PS. I also love swivel rattans, but that's because I'm a nutter.
I'm just not quite that goth, at least not $775 worth. 1990s Vintage Ebonized Gothic Rocking Chair
