When Google Fails
Apr. 13th, 2016 08:02 pmI have a Timex branded plug-in night light, model # TX22401, which takes a 7W bulb and otherwise looks almost exactly like this one.
I like it, because it's a motion sensor (since it lives in my dark, windowless bathroom, it would not be able to tell dawn/dusk), turns off after 45sec of no motion detection, (which can be funny in the middle of the night during one of those not-moving-from-the-toilet-anytime-soon episodes, and I don't want it on all night anyway), and not blindingly bright for a night light like the current LED night lights are. I checked, but not a single night light that I can find in stores right now has a "luminescent rating" of "one bulb". For instance, I keep looking at this one in the store, because I love Celtic knots, but notice in the top right of the packaging that it claims to be 2 out of 3 "brightness" dots. Well, I have no idea exactly how much 2 out of 3 brightness circles might be, but I'm pretty sure it's more than I wish to have in my night light. (Also, again, this one is a dusk/dawn auto light, which does me no good.) (PS, take a gander at the Details section for that light, and this one as well - I sent a response to them in their "Did you find what you were look for" pop up.)
My awesome night light stopped working a couple months back. Of course I first thought it was the bulb, but replacement bulbs haven't worked. The indicator red light comes on when it's plugged in, so I know it's getting power, and I can only assume it might have something to do with the sensor not working.
My problem is, I can't figure out how to open the damned thing without breaking its plastic shell. I've unscrewed the two screws, but there's got to be some sort of catch or snap or clip in the sensor section holding it together, but I'm struggling to figure it out.
Unfortunately, this is one of those times when Google fails me.
"timex night light TX22401" - zero results, nada, zip, NOTHING IN ALL THE REALM OF THE INTERNET
"timex night light" - cue Indiglopalooza
While typing "Timex wall-mount..." I get a recommended autocomplete of: "timex tx1012 wall-mountable thermometer and hygrometer"
Well, hey! At least there does exist another Timex item with a model number starting with tx-. It looks like I might be getting somewhere.
"timex wall-mounted night light" - gives me a bunch of Timex alarm clocks followed by a couple of night light ads for Bed, Bath & Beyond, Wayfair, eBay, and IKEA.
Just to see, I click on the Bed, Bath & Beyond link and utilize their filter for Timex (qty 3) and get ... drum roll ... 3 wrist watches with Indiglo. The Wayfair link at least led me to the link of the clone night light to which I hyperlinked above, and I would simply order another one to replace this one and then break the plastic open on this one to my heart's content, but they are sold out (probably because everyone is phasing out incandescents, even though nightlights are currently exempt - still waiting on the government to step up to the plate with phase-out gas guzzler measures, but that's a rant for another day).
I'm not sure if I like or don't like this Westinghouse 7 watt STAR Candelabra Screw, but I have to admit, I do like the creative use of the bulb in the STAR chandelier. Great, now I'm surfing Houzz for chandeliers, and the mathematician in me just went squee at this Capital Lighting Axis Winter Gold Chandelier which comes in 6-light (linked), 4-light, and 3-light options, from what I can quickly tell.
And now I've entered Gadget Sin and may never come back out, all because of this little guy (on Kickstarter), which I'm seriously considering. This one is adorable. While I'm only really interested in watching the roomies play Minecraft, I just think this Redstone Ore lamp is pretty and might not be too bright for my purposes, although I'd still rather have it motion sensor activated instead of touch activated. There's also a Diamond Ore lamp and a Torch, though not as cool as the Ore lamps. Um... And this is a unicorn, although it reminds me more of a cartoon narwhal, but it might remind others of something else, like, oh I don't know, an LED light up Popsicle lightsaber, perhaps? That's just wrong.
Oooh, I have an idea for Christmas gifts for the boys - Batman and Superman Illuminated Night Light Wall Decor.
This yellow-headed guy reminds me of my junior high years when I had a yellow bug light in my table lamp and it drove my dad nuts, but I liked it.
Then again, maybe I should sit and think about my options.
PS - I never did find what I originally set out to find.
PPS - Holy Crap, I finally found a replacement that's not out of stock!
Google search: "motion sensor red night light" gave me this as a "shop for" option, even though it's not red. Now to decide if I'm going to go all hoarder on this item and buy 5 of them at once.
