Why couldn't the Doctor have
pulled a pick axe out of his jacket pocket?
I mean, he pulled out his sunglasses to analyze the walls of Room 12's corridor, so if those were still in there, wouldn't it be a safe assumption that other things would still be in that pocket as well, like the sledge hammer he pulled out and handed to Clara in a previous episode?
At least then he could have shaved off a few million years and had less knuckle bruising.
