After a few years working at my place of business, I'm actually planning an honest vacation from there (Jun 29-Jul 3). It's not that I'll have my phone off, but I'll actually be doing things away from home most of the week. We've planned out who will be taking care of my job duties while I'm out. I've trained the staff necessary and am crossing my fingers that all will go well.

We decided to rent a mid-sized SUV to keep the mileage off our own vehicles and to give extra interior space for the boys. They'll also be able to access the luggage while driving instead of us having to stop to get into the trunk of a regular car.

I'll be rechecking from the library a couple of audio books that we can all listen to and that I know the boys will be interested in hearing. That way the boys can play on their tablets and/or laptops while also listening to the audio books and hopefully not being rambunctious and/or fighting during the drive. Audio books also count toward their summer reading points at the library, so that'll be a lot of reading time logged.

We picked a hotel in between our tourist spots with an indoor pool and spa, since the boys want to go swimming and I want to attack that spa, and we'll have plenty of outdoor sun and swimming over the following two days while there. The hotel includes complimentary breakfast, an evening snack and drink thing (which I think may be a Happy Hour type thing for adults, but we'll see), and afternoon-into-evening free popcorn and sodas, which will work nicely into an evening swim followed by an in-room movie each night to calm the boys down. I'm adding the funds for us to have a suite with a living room and a pull-out sofabed, so as not to get too cramped in our room and to give an extra sleeping space. It also includes in-room complimentary coffee, a refrigerator (mid-sized with freezer, if we go based on the sample images) and a microwave, so we can save on food costs a bit with in-room options.

We'll be hitting the Natural Bridge Caverns, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and it's included water park, and an all-day tour that includes a River Walk boat ride, Mission San Antonio de Valero (aka the Alamo), Mission Concepción, Mission San José, El Mercado, the Texas Ranger Museum, the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, and the Japanese Sunken Gardens. Eldest just finished his Texas History class this past year and is still familiar with the Texas Revolution/War of Independence, so he's very much looking forward to seeing the Alamo. I'm sorely tempted to find Peewee's Big Adventure to show the boys before we go, because I'm evil like that (and I can only imagine the irksomeness of the Alamo attendants when people still inevitably bring up the basement joke).

Then, I'll have two days to relax away from the boys and do some needed bedroom and closet organizing and hanging out with a friend or two. That will be followed by probably more skating and July 4th fireworks with the boys, and then a typical lazy Sunday in which I sit on my ass and do as little as possible while playing with some form of string craft.

Oh, and June 29th is my birthday, so this will be a nice birthday present as well.

Now to remember where I've stored my luggage, which I think is in the shed, but I haven't been out there in two years, so this alone will be a minor adventure in and of itself.

I also have no idea when was the last time I used my vacation tag for one of these posts. I'm glad to be using it for its intended purpose.
