The Will AI was stupid in the end.
Will was given a dilemma in the end that "proved" he was actually a good guy. He could upload the virus and kill himself, thereby ending the war the anti-AI group had started against him, or he could upload Evelyn and save her (Doctor Who's Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead pun unintentionally found it's way in here), but he didn't have power* for both.
If he were half as intelligent, he could have figured out that he could upload Evelyn and then choose to step down as though the virus had been uploaded, thereby going into hiding in some secret basement computer or something.
*Um, yeah, this was another Poor Science thing. Not enough power for both? Really? Um....... Not to mention the ultimate horrible conclusion that a computer virus would cause electricity to no longer work all over the world, which harkens back to my previous mention of the TV show Revolution and its overall poor science design. I at least watched Revolution because I enjoyed the stories of the people, but Good God the lack of science hurt.
