My savings account turned 30 years old a couple months ago.

That's kind of ... uh ... damn, I feel old.

It was opened by $25 worth of half dollars that my grandfather had given me every time he came to visit. I used to store them in one of those big Tootsie Roll tubes that originally comes with candy but then becomes a coin bank after it's been emptied.

Thinking about it of course reminds me of my grandfather. He was SUCH a cad, always flirting with the ladies, and always pushing me to flirt with the boys, but I was so damned shy back then. I remember visiting him in the hospital when he was doing dialysis. All he was concerned about was trying to goad me into flirting with a boy a few rooms over. That man had a way of making me blush ten shades of red.

I remember when I was really young, probably about 5 or 6 years old, and he bought me the prettiest Easter dress ever. It was blue and frilly and fancy, and totally not something I would normally wear, but I did manage to wear it a few times.

He was always bringing me the most interesting gifts. He brought back a Topsy-Turvy doll (mine actually has faces, and yes, one of the sides is a black maid just like the one in the link) from another country. I had so much fun flipping that thing back and fourth and back and fourth. I never played with dolls like a normal little girl, but this one really fascinated me. It's stored on display in an antique hutch at my parents' house.
