Updates
I picked a hell of a night to have another stomach migraine. I was planning on going in to work today and saving my floating holiday for new house related stuff later. As is, I gave up fighting it at 4:45 this morning. Taking the day off.
Plans for today - Uh, none. I have some games on my computer that I've been playing offline, books to read, and my cross stitch I've been working on in the evenings. Other than that, nada.
K&E gave me some birthday spending money for the estate sale this past weekend, and I managed to pick up a brand new unopened 12-piece box of Cooking with Calphalon cookware. That's a pretty awesome birthday gift, if you ask me.
I did, in fact, break down at the estate sale. I had seen the pictures ahead of time and saw a nice dining room table. I told myself that if it was in good condition and less than $500 then I would get it. Sure enough, it was less, and I put in a bid for an even cheaper price and got it. That thing is solid cherry wood and HEAVY as hell. The chairs look hard, but they have just the right amount of seat and back curves to be exceptionally comfortable and lumbar supported. The table is as shiny as it looks in the image, but the cut is nice and relaxed (which is why I don't like Queen Anne style furniture - pretty, but too fussy and always looking precariously like it wants to break). It's got a trestle-style base, so it'll handle plenty of weight without my having to worry about the double pedestals. This thing is going to be with me for quite a long time.
I pre-purchased a chair for Mila to pick up, and in return she was gracious enough to help me transport the table using my dad's truck. I asked dad to come along as well, as I knew I would need some help with the table. That was a blessing in disguise, as I didn't think to test the weight of the table ahead of time. Between the three of us we eventually managed to get it into storage at my parents' house. I'm surprised I didn't pull any muscles in that ordeal. I do love me some heavy wood furniture, that's for sure.
My parents got a new puppy on Sunday that's a rescue dog just dropped off at a place of business that my dad frequents. It's like Noah's Ark over there now. Two cats, two dogs, two (and a half) boys, and my parents. The puppy is so cute, and has had the wonderful effect of calming the other dog down quite a bit already. The older dog is a pure-bred Border Collie girl and the new one is a blue merle Australian Shepherd boy, so between the two of them, they'll be great family pets. Mom was worried about his eye being discolored, as one eye has a patch of white (technically light blue) on it, and I had to explain to her that's normal for this breed, even pulling up online pictures for her to look at. She was afraid he had an eye problem and wanted to get him to the vet ASAP, which he still needs to go see, but now she's calmed down regarding it. It also helps in identifying his breed pretty easily. I'm going to have to spearhead getting these pups into obedience training, as mom keeps dragging her feet on them. The dogs will love it, and if the boys can put it into practice with walking the dogs to the park regularly, they'll be pretty well-rounded animals (both the dogs and the boys). Maybe they'll stop tearing up everything in the house and garage (again, this applies to both the dogs and the boys).
I think I had other things to mention, but I've hit a mental road block. Off to get a shower.
