Trying to do something nice for the Englishman is difficult, because he keeps trying to pay me back.

Wednesday I had my mom's-side Thanksgiving dinner. Tom, Jeanne, and Anthony all came along with me as guests. This was Tom's 3rd dinner with them, Anthony's 2nd, and Jeanne's 1st. John wasn't able to make it because I managed to get him some work that actually ended up lasting until about 10pm. I was glad he got the work, but sorry that he missed out on a true family-style T-dinner. My schizophrenic uncle was there, so that was an added element of entertaining that had been missing the past couple of years.

Thursday morning John and I took over the kitchen to make two batches of cookie dough, two different types of deviled eggs, and he made some homemade apple butter. Dinner with the orphans was nice as usual. It ended oddly, but such is the way of my friends.

Friday John and I had a good small-diner breakfast, and John got to try Texas-style French toast for the first time. I'll have to make him some more later. Then I treated John to a visit to Ripley's Believe It Or Not and Louis Tussaud's Palace of Wax. The Enchanted Mirror Maze was actually quite fun and surprisingly pretty and comfortable. I'm used to the all-white mazes where you can "cheat" by seeing the mirrors on the floor, so this was a very pleasant change. (*shhhh* I won't tell you how many times John ran into a mirror, but it was enough - heehee)

Yesterday I stole John again and took him to my second* favorite sushi bar Japanese Grill, then to Grapevine Mills Mall, and finally to Fry's. It was a good day. My goal of fattening John up is working: salmon cake, eel (for the first time), hurricane roll with the most amazing baked salmon on top, American fudge, and a baked pretzel. I was a very good girl at the mall and avoided buying a pretty fan and a couple of scrolls at a Japanese store, however, I did break down and buy some more movies while at Fry's. This included Max Headroom, so we watched the first four episodes last night after getting back home.

Today we will be heading out to Half Price Books on I-75 and having lunch at Henk's. I've been craving their potato cakes with apple sauce for a good month and a half now.

*First favorite sushi and hibachi bar is Edohana, which was were we took him his first night in town.
