Always a good one
Jun. 27th, 2009 10:58 amTrying to force food to stay in my body this morning.
I'm losing.
I was up since 4:30 this morning curled in the fetal position until my body decided to horribly purge itself from both ends for the next few hours. At least I've gotten some rest, but the body cramps are still bad. This really screws with any plans that I had of making today a productive day.

Date: 2009-06-27 10:30 pm (UTC)Sadly, I seem to get this about once every month or two. Usually at night, and it tends to start with a hot flash, followed by stomach pains, and then headache and nausea. It's normally not as bad as last night and I can normally keep from vomiting, but last night was pretty bad. One of my doctors suggested it could be stomach migraines. Whatever it is, it's actually, horribly predictable in the patterns of symptoms. When I wake up in the middle of the night with a hot flash, I tend to just know what's coming next. I just can't imagine that I'm getting food poisoning that often, especially when it's usually gone after about 24 hours of recovery.
It's 5pm now, and I was able to keep a small bowl of cereal and a couple glasses of liquids down, so aside from getting my system back into normal patterns now, I'm probably past the bad stuff.

--comforts the Kitty--
does everything come back up, liquids, etc? Is there anything that you can take that would mitigate it?
i will check with Mister Man (when he wakes up) and see if he knows anything that might help.

Date: 2009-06-28 05:19 pm (UTC)When these normally hit, I can usually keep myself from vomiting by just sheer will power, and that usually allows me to eat/drink much sooner after the attack, which also allows me to hold medicines down sooner. But if I ever start then it takes longer to get stabilized enough to keep anything down. The other half is bad diarrhea which gives in to the phrase "my ass is peeing" and continues until what seems like all of the intestines have been flushed. It's just a complete cleaning house of the entire digestive system starting from the stomach and making its way out in which ever direction it can. Once everything is clear (usually taking a few hours), then I have a sitting period while the system calms down and stops grumbling and seizing. I can even feel flutters in my digestive tract during that time and of course my body is generally weak from the experience. Once I'm able to keep liquids and foods down, then it's just a matter of getting sustenance back into my body and recuperating from the loss of energy and nutrients.
The diarrhea part is the only thing that appears to be different from what I've read online about stomach migraines. It seems that it's usually vomiting that takes over, but I still can't find anything that resembles what I have any more closely than stomach migraines. I also have regular migraines, so I'm not horribly surprised that this may be somehow related. Either way, I have dissolvable Zomig that I take as soon as I see it coming. Since it dissolves in the mouth it doesn't cause a vomit reflex and it gets absorbed almost entirely rather than getting thrown back up like the other medicines. Once everything calms down, then I start with the Pepto Bismol and ibuprofen.
