This was just sent out to my mentor's mailing list. While the program description sounds absolutely wonderful (especially the part about visiting France a few times), I really don't want to go to Florida. I'm not completely sure if this is a grad/PhD program or if it is a post-doc position based on the information provided. If it is grad/PhD, I just may have to include this on my applications list to begin commencing in the coming month. It's either that or I just have to wait until the day that I am finally qualified to apply to positions like this.

PHD POSITION IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS & BRAIN SCIENCES CENTER FOR COMPLEX
SYSTEMS & BRAIN SCIENCES FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY

Applications are currently being accepted for interdisciplinary PhD
training under the joint mentorship of Drs. Steven Bressler
(http://www.ccs.fau.edu/~bressler) and Viktor Jirsa
(http://www.ccs.fau.edu/~jirsa). The program of training will take a
theoretical approach to the study of neural and cognitive function.

The position will focus on understanding the connectivity and dynamics
of large-scale brain networks. It will emphasize:
* the construction of artificial brain networks based on known
anatomical connectivity
* the generation of simulated network time-series data
* functional connectivity and causality analysis of simulated
time-series data in relation to the analysis of LFP, MEG, and fMRI
time-series data

The program offers competitive, multi-year stipends and tuition
remission. Long-term research and training visits (up to six
months) in partner institutions in France are optional and encouraged.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
* Quantitative training in physics, mathematics, computer science, or
related fields
* Programming experience (Matlab, C/C++, .)
* English speaking and writing skills

Previous experience in neuroscience is not required but would be an
advantage.

Interested students are encouraged to submit a CV, contact details of
two referees, and a short statement of research interests to either Dr.
Bressler (bressler@ccs.fau.edu) or Dr.
Jirsa (jirsa@ccs.fau.edu).

Committed to Equal Opportunities.

The Center for Complex Systems & Brain Sciences at Florida Atlantic
University is in Boca Raton, situated between West Palm Beach and Fort
Lauderdale, with easy access to the beautiful beaches and rich cultural
life of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area.

I'm still scared as ever about this upcoming process. Still worried about leaving my friends and family behind and being alone. I'm not afraid of new and different places. I otherwise LOVE to travel and wish I could do so much more often than I do (which is about never). It's just the being alone part that I hate.

And your sister strikes me as someone who's afraid to be alone. She can't even get out of your parents' house without pulling something stupid enough to require her to return.

I mean come, don't you think John Feeley and I are pretty close?

Stare down the future - you can do it. If you don't try, you'll be miserable. If you try and you are - at least it was because you tried.
Better be misreable from doing something than nothing.

Oh and Kevin and I are enrolling in school. Yes you had an influence.
