YMCA Hurricane Relief Update

There are 187 families currently at the Fort Worth YMCA Camp Carter and more arriving. They have most of the basic supplies now, but still have an updated list of supplies needed.

If you know someone in the food industry that might like to donate a meal for around 300 people here is a food calendar of meal times still available

They are also looking for volunteers who can be available pretty much any time of the day to help.

I'm getting word to [livejournal.com profile] smokedamage (someone go to the apartment and wake him up, as I am at work right now) that they have accepted the donation of 10 computers. The lady answering the phone was absolutely ecstatic to hear this because they are actually in the process of wiring for the internet today. I told her we can have them out there by tonight or at the latest tomorrow morning.

[livejournal.com profile] disgruntledgrrl: I'm sure that if they are loving the computers they will also appreciate the tv if you still want to donate it.

Barbie dolls for $4. Play-doh for 24 cents. Cooking utensils out the yin-yang. A new discount warehouse type of thing.
I'm not sure I'm going to fork over the tv yet. But I am seriously considering kit bashing together the older computer and getting ready to send it off with a monitor and speakers.
I waited to hear from you yesterday. Gimme a call if you wanna do some of this shopping together. Have you been there? Can we just adopt a family and go get them stuff?

Yeah I couldn't bring myself to drive all the way out there again until I knew for sure they had families and there was no answer at the phones yesterday to confirm that for me. (Plus I must admit to taking a day for myself - the past couple of weeks have been emotionally taxing on me - spent the day reading Ghost in the Shell, which I finished.)

The camp has two separate dining halls and they are depending on meal donations for food, so I doubt they will need utensils (but human volunteers to help serve and clean I know would be appreciated).

I do want to go back and I'm trying to figure out my schedule. I'll give you a call when I get off work.
