So the mechanic couldn't ever get my car to overheat again. I'll admit that while it was doing it's fun overheating thing during my lunch hour on the day I took it in, it never did overheat during the drive out to the mechanic's after work. They put a new thermostat on it and there's no charge, but it does bug the crap out of me that my car is so randomly acting wonky.
