We had to put Topaz to sleep today. The doctor told us Saturday that although the medicines were allowing her to gain weight, the food was getting stopped up in her body by her liver. So either we watched her wilt away from not eating, watch her body eat itself from a backup of waste, or put her to sleep.

It was very quick and the only pain she had was the needle prick. I have been a miserable wreck the past few days thinking about it. If I wasn't falling asleep crying then I was waking up crying after having a dream about her. So if you see my eyes tear up in the next couple of weeks it's just me in mourning.

Thank you everyone for thinking of me and my precious kitty.

Apparently there is a gathering at Birra's tonight which I will participate in. So I'll see whoever goes.

I too have a kitty named Topaz. She was a stray that lived in the neighbors shed. As winter approached a couple of years ago, our kitty Griz (Grizabella) passed away. Our neigbors knew how much I loved her (I am not one to cry at much, but just spending a few moments thinking about Griz makes me tear up....) and told me about Topaz. When we first took her in, she would only hide behind the guest bath toilet.... now she is queen of the house....

I guess I said all of that to say I understand your loss.... it is never easy, and there is a VERY good website to help you as you work through the grieving process....

Lots of love to you from one who understands......

Thank you very much. I remember when we had to put my first dog to sleep many years ago and we came across a poem that was very fitting with her situation. I know I'll still have little tearing fits, but the worst was the time leading up to having to put her to sleep. I kept thinking that she only had 4 hours left, then 3, then...

Yeah, I will miss her.
