On "Synthetic Life"

1) "It's certainly changed my views of the definitions of life and how life works."

Really? Seriously? How, pray tell, did you think life worked prior to the experiment that somehow drew you into genetic manipulation research?

2) They found the cell took on the appearance and behaviour of the transplanted chromosome, generating different proteins and multiplying.

Awaits news of a fast-growing blob taking over the UK.

3) Sky's health correspondent Thomas Moore said the scientists have created a form of life never before seen on the planet.

How were they able to confirm this? Were they able to travel back in time and prove that yeast-based insemination never took place before? (OK, yes, this one's a stretch, but I still hate sensationalist journalism.)

4) "Some will worry that this is undermining the distinction of living beings and machines."

Bwah? Sooooooooo, my AI degree comes of naught if they start creating living, non-machine yeast babes???

5) "I think the greatest issue posed by this research is not really anything to do with the fact that it's artificial life as such, it's got to do with the potential for this kind of research to be misused to create pathogens that could be used in biological weapons."

Bwahahahahaha - Hasn't that always been the case with anything humans have ever created? The chance of turning a wonderful creation into a weapon?
