I had never before heard of this classification of verdict used by the Scots, but I really wish it could be implemented here.

I love the web. I found this wiki article while reading about Type I and Type II statistical errors. Funny how things are connected sometimes.

This is what happens when the owner feeds his Ritalin to his own puppies on Halloween.

PS - Because I know some people who are very PETA-minded - this is a funny video, not a testament against animal cruelty. No animal was actually fed Ritalin (that I know of), although the whole costume concept might still qualify as cruel and unusual punishment.

Halloween

My body aches after taking the boys out trick-or-treating last night. My sister brought along the baby's stroller, but of course he had to be picked up out of it at every house and then put back in. After a while I finally just carried him for half a block and walked him up to the door myself.

Both boys were cute as hell in their costumes, as most children are. They ended up with two huge bowls of candy (not including what was left over at my parent's house of the hand-out candy). I happened to notice a Tootsie Pop that said "Valentine Tootsie" on the wrapper, so we threw that one out just on principle.

I was so surprised by the whole slew of kids and families that came out to trick-or-treat this year. It was absolutely wonderful. It reminded me of how Halloween is portrayed in movies with kids everywhere in the neighborhood. I have never seen that many kids in one neighborhood, ever.

The biggest draw both last year and now this year is a single family that creates a haunted house out of their two-car garage with tombstones in the yard and scary music playing and candy handed out at the end. They line the walls with black material and turn the garage into four little rooms each with no less than two character players in scary scenes. I think it's giving a lot of people a reason to stay in the area and trick-or-treat (or to come to our area from somewhere else) and it really does promote good ol' fashioned door-to-door spookiness. The Hurst police had a few patrol cars in the area which also promotes feel-goodness amongst otherwise fearful folks.

I'm glad trick-or-treating is making a comeback, at least in my neighborhood.
