Work, work, work
Dec. 21st, 2006 11:02 amWinter Break starts today so there will be about 50 or so kids at work all day every day for the next 2.5 weeks. My noise-canceling headphones will become my new best friend. Now if only I had some good music to listen to. I have issues with taking cd's that I'm not willing to part with to work with me. Perhaps I should invest in an mp3 player, but so far I haven't even looked into them.
I am going to try to go to Elizabeth's funeral tomorrow afternoon. It will cut in to my work time which I'll have to make up later. There will be a lot of YMCA employees there who also paid their respects when my grandfather passed away, since both my mom and I work for the Y and deal a lot with the same staff at different branches throughout Fort Worth, particularly the Metro Office where Elizabeth worked. A part of me doesn't want to go. My mom was already planning on going, but I really hate that her boss asked her to go to "represent our branch." I find that absolutely shitty. Perhaps it's because of that exact attitude that I almost don't want to go. Not because I don't want to pay my respects, but because of all of the other people that are there out of some sort of work obligation crap. God I hate funerals.
Sharla's doing ok after her car wreck. Apparently an 18-wheeler swerved causing another car to swerve which in turn caused her to take out the side guard rail on the freeway. Luckily the car stopped before heading down a steep hill/embankment. The car had to be towed and she got burns from the airbag and I'm sure a lot of bruising and internal stuff that will show up over the course of the next day or so. The truck never stopped (probably oblivious to the whole thing), but other witnesses did stop, which was nice.
Tonight, tomorrow evening and perhaps some of Saturday morning will be spent with my mom working an Organizing job. $45/hour sounds nice and will help pay for Christmas gifts. Granted that for both of us, but still. A little extra cash never hurt.
