Busy Weekend
Aug. 14th, 2005 11:11 amThis is the first time I've had to sit at the computer all weekend.
I took my car in to the mechanic Friday morning and then went to work. Work was busy Friday, and it will be for the next week as parents sign their children up for child care with school starting back. I came home at 6:15 to get ready for the McNair banquet only to find
smokedamage not at home and getting ready as well. So I called and found out that he decided last minute to take off for Shreveport. I'm still upset that not only did he not tell me the day before but he didn't even bother to try and call me to let me know when he knew for sure. (He did send an email Friday afternoon, as though I would know to check it sometime while running around like a chicken with my head cut off at work.) I tried
reneat and my mom but neither were able to quickly throw something on and make it here. While I was talking with mom I realized that the banquet started at 6pm instead of the 7pm that I was thinking and I was already going to be 30 minutes late. Luckily I ran into Rachel, another McNair scholar, in the parking lot, so we were able to walk in together.
The dinner was good despite having the odd empty seat next to me and having to tell everyone where my guest was. We took group pictures afterwards and gradually dispersed. Rachel and I came back to the apartment to get ready while waiting for
reneat and
tabla_malachi to show up. She called her best friend to get her to come out with us, but was upset from having a death in the family. So Rachel went to comfort her. The remaining three of us went to Mulligan's to see Velvet Love Box play. During the course of the evening I managed to be beckoned to a table of a bunch of guys that looked like they could make the core of a football team. One in particular which we nicknamed Mr. GQ seemed a bit interested and made a promise to call me later (which hasn't happened yet, oh darn). His nickname was apply fitting when I discovered that he had been high school homecoming king, TCU homecoming king, and was now a litigation lawyer. We left around two and I came home to sleep.
Saturday I was back at work from 10am-6pm. I went home, got ready and then went back out with
reneat and others to Joe T. Garcia's Mexican Restaurant. We were invited to a pool party afterwards, but were just too tired and full. We came back to my apartment and chatted and watched an episode of The Secret Life of Us while sipping the Honey Wine that I bought.
So now, I relax.
