I saw what I thought was a familiar face on Swordfish. I'm pretty sure that one of the guys that plays muscle for Travolta's character is the same one that played Ethan Rom (is that supposed to be a play on Ethan Fromme?) on Lost and who also had a character named Gunneson in the now defunct show that I just finished watching called Threshold. In Swordfish, he has shoulder-length blonde hair, a goatee, and is barely on screen long enough to get a really good look at, so he wasn't looking the same as what I have become familiar with. I still think that the characters Gunneson and Ethan were struck from the same block of alien dna marble. Off to IMDB I went to look him up and verify his identity, but the character name didn't pop up immediately.

Since I was looking for goons from Swordfish, I stopped briefly to view the always fantastic Vinnie Jones. This diversion led me in a roundabout way (never mind the details) to Alcor, so I spent a small "ooh shiny" moment perusing cryonics, just to prove that my inner geek is still there.

While looking through the list of Threshold characters I came across a familiar name that I just happened to be commenting about with my roommates a few weeks back wondering if he was still in the acting business. They had no idea who I was talking about. Sure enough, it's the same Shane Conrad that I had a HUGE crush on back in the day (please don't make me count the years ago that was - damn it makes me feel old just thinking about it) when he starred in High Mountain Rangers with his brother and father (Robert Conrad of The Wild Wild West which I incidentally grew up watching as a child and which only proves that I was addicted to steampunk probably before I was learning my multiplication tables and definitely before I ever knew that such a word to describe such wonder existed).

As with many crushes from eons ago I would expect the object of my wild school-girl imaginations (on the far left) to age into something less-desirable, hence causing such a crush to crash after so many years. Holy shit if I wasn't completely off the mark on that one. I think I have a bigger crush on him now than I did back then. Yowser.

I swear, Jeffrey Donovan and Guy Pearce look and act like they could be brothers. I knew I recognized Jeffrey from somewhere when I saw his character in Threshold and I kept going back and fourth between thinking he was Jared's brother in The Pretender and thinking he was Leonard from Memento. Likening him to Guy actually came after watching his character moving and talking. It wasn't until [livejournal.com profile] corzican IMDB'd him for me that we figured out that the slightly older him is recognizable from Burn Notice, of which I've only been able to see the pilot.

Incidentally, the answer to the ONE question that I got online this evening to answer is yes. William Mapother from Lost and Threshold is also the actor that plays one of the goons in Swordfish.

I'm glad I finally got that question answered. Now if you'll excuse me, I must go drool just a tad more at the drop dead hunk that is now Shane Conrad. (heh - I said hunk - looks like my 80's are showing)

Just a note, from when we figured it out in Season One:

ETHAN ROM is an anagram for OTHER MAN.
