Last night immediately after leaving Pipe Dreams I was pulled over for expired license tags. I was pretty sure the officer knew that we ([livejournal.com profile] smokedamage and I) had just left the shop, so when he asked, "exactly where are you coming from" I had no real choice but to state the truth. So you can imagine me having to say we cam from Pipe Dreams and of course the next question being if we bought anything.

My driver's license still shows my parent's address in Hurst, so I'm sure he was doubly curious of what "exactly" our nature of business was in Arlington. I was really expecting it to just get worse from there - suspicion because we came out of Pipe Dreams followed by us being asked to step out of the car while he did a general search, deep and penetrating questions about the (albeit legal) Australian, and us being so far away from Hurst (I had to tell him that I lived in Arlington and Hurst was my permanent address).

Luckily the 20 questions stopped soon without all of the "I'm a cop do as I say" showy effects. I knew the only thing he could get me on was expired license tags (2.5 months illegal - a new record for me). But he could have easily been an ass and started asking more questions which would have just escalated his suspicions for no good reason what-so-ever. So I got my ticket which now will have to be dealt with Tuesday morning.

How I love him. (and strangely, know him quite well...)

Seriously: how many times have we been pulled over and breathalised- while slightly over the limit, or with a sixth passenger lying across the laps of the backseat kids- and seen the cop roll his eyes, and wave us on.

Is it purely because we have such gormless smiles?

i think the smile on your face when yvette was hunched down around your feet and her head curled in your lap might have scared off that cop.
