Steam Powered Giraffe
Jul. 5th, 2020 10:41 pmThey lost a band member, and not due to some illness, but instead on bad terms.
I would like to applaud them for their pro-action.
( Details as posted by one of the band members as a pinned comment to the below song that was just re-edited to remove the offending band member. )

Send in the Snot
Sep. 27th, 2019 03:52 amSinus infection made it impossible to breathe, and therefore to sleep tonight. I've been awake since 3a and it's coming up on 4a now.
The most annoying part, though, isn't the snot alien my nose produced, or the exhaustion I feel from tossing and turning all night.
It's the songs that have managed to also lodge themselves in my brain meats. The Popcorn Song, and Send in the Clowns.
How I have managed to get BOTH of these damned songs stuck on repeat simultaneously, I'll never know. I get "doot, doot, doot do, do do doot" for a couple of refrains, followed by seeing the last scene with musical score from the Joker trailer playing in my head, then back to da shrimpi-shrimpi once again (see below for reference).

Good Morning
Nov. 4th, 2018 10:07 amI love watching talks and documentaries on just about anything that has to do with our brains, so of course the title of this video got my attention.
The best part was half way through when he discusses the effects of sleep loss on the body. It was fitting, given that today is that fucking biannual change the clocks day and that I've been watching a lot of videos in the past month on diabetes.

Emergency! Emergency!
Oct. 2nd, 2018 08:49 amThe news of today is about a fear that Trump will take his Twits to a whole new level by "planting a Government-controlled loudspeaker in the home and on the person of every American."
Not only is this a system that has been in place for a while now, Japan still has us beat.
In case of missile attack, they 1)set off local sirens (check), 2)send out alerts to cell phones (check), and 3)magically turn on televisions to news alerts (nope, we're not there yet).

Home Sweet Home
Aug. 20th, 2018 11:01 amI've been watching the crap out of Tiny Houses on YouTube, which includes permanent houses (I have that bed), mobile houses on trailers, refurbished school buses ("skoolies"), RVs and vans, creative apartment designs, multipurpose Tetris furniture, amazing designs, and traveling castles.
In the middle of all these videos, I came across this guy with his 5 kids in a small condo. Interestingly enough, he's running for city council in Vancouver. His biggest platform is city living for family and the deconstruction of suburban sprawl.
I was also sent this article denouncing the open concept great room, which seems kind of fitting with some of the tiny house mindsets.
Funny enough, I picked out a random audiobook while awaiting other books I have on hold to become available. It's called The Bookshop on the Corner, and I picked it out after reading only the first info paragraph without knowing much more. The heroine goes from city dwelling to urban farm dwelling, living in a barn that's been converted into a cottage with a refurbished van she turns into a traveling bookstore. It's interesting in it's ability to role-combine (as opposed to role-reversal) the mindset of urban living + travel van.

Did you know there were violins?
Jul. 14th, 2018 11:46 pmThis video reminds me of exactly how musically wonderful The Temptation songs really were.

Thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Brandy and My Sweet Lord are stuck in my head on repeat.
It could be worse.
Speaking of which, when I was in Spanish classes, we learned the translation for and meaning behind La Bamba. It's like the complete opposite of the meaning behind Brandy. Or maybe just a prelude to Brandy - make her swoon with your Captain's charm, and then dump her like the sea bitch you really are. This was the plot of John Wayne's Seven Sinners, which was probably my most favorite of all his gazillion movies, because the focus was on the woman, not the man or the battle or the posse. Would he give up his life in the Navy to marry the girl at the bar, the girl he fought the other Navy officers and local boss man over?
Incidentally, that movie is the reason I have coveted a wingback rattan chair since just about forever. It's Bijou's favorite seat. Oh my, it's on sale.

Forest Swords - Panic
May. 30th, 2017 04:10 pmNot only good music, but the video is an intriguing study in texture, movement, and the human form.
Officially: Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture (composed in 1880)
Hummed by Eugene in The Walking Dead, season 7, episode 11, titled Hostiles and Calamities, while making his own "cannon" for the girls' amusement.
Full with Cannons
WARNING: Cannons may make dogs bark, scare your mom, leave your neighbor dumbfounded, make cats panic, wake you up in the middle of the night shouting at the top of your lungs because you think you are being robbed, scare the crap out of you, and/or blow up your ears and brains; among other things...
AKA: Dan Fogelberg - Same Old Lang Syne (a hundred years later, 1980, and Tchaikovsky is groaning in his grave)
Best heard in:

Mar. 11th, 2017 09:25 amI'm stuck in YouTube again, all because a friend sent a link.
Also, speaking of marvelous musical machines, last week Wintergarten celebrated it's one year anniversary of posting The Marble Machine. 2:10 rocks. I'm also quite into the sax that comes in at 5:15. Watching it go techno, then dubstep, then hardcore was funny. Oh god, 8:30 kills me!
HAHA - All this needs is either a Devo song, or maybe even Kraftwerk's We Are The Robots, created for it to play. I could picture Devo's A Beautiful World on this. Hm, Daft Punk, perhaps?
This one appears to be at a diner, if it's not the diner itself.
So pretty
SERIOUSLY - I'm stuck in YouTube and can't get out!

Slo-Mo Art Music Video
Feb. 11th, 2017 11:24 amIt has over 2 minutes of final credits that are just as fascinating to watch as the video.
Although, I'm not so sure about the tar barrels. That was far from my favorite part.
6:50, though, is a great moment to pause on.
