Studying for the GRE (this will be long going until probably May, so expect many random posts about it from me), I just learned of the term eggcorns. I'd definitely heard of the term malapropism before, but never eggcorns.

Ha! Even my spellchecker doesn't believe in eggcorns yet.

I'll be honest, never understood the concept behind grad school

What does it do? How is it different from college?

Grad school is a *part* of College

Grade school (for Americans) goes from grades Pre-K through 12, but they are broken up into Pre-K/Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle/Junior High, and High Schools, and of course there's always arguments over whether Pre-K and K are inclusive in that structure. For someone bypassing High School, but still wishing to have a diploma, there's the GED.

College is similarly broken up into almost equivalent levels. Here's the "typical" progression:

2 yr associates degree from a Junior College (usually bypassed in favor of going straight for a bachelor's degree)
*if someone gets an associates, most of those 2 yrs of courses can be transferred and applied toward the bachelor's
4 yr bachelor's degree from an Undergrad College
2-4 yr master's degree from a Graduate College
2-4 yr doctoral degree from a Graduate College

So if you think about it, they are like these equivalents:
associates degree = Prek-K/Kindergarten - can be bypassed
bachelor's degree = elementary
master's degree = middle school
doctoral degree = high school

Trade schools offer degrees/certifications that, to the college world, is similar to a what a GED is to the the grade school diploma.

To be more specific

An associates degree usually only teaches the basics of college (math, science, english, history) without going into any depth within any particular field. (The intern doing filing and coffee making.)

A bachelor's degree teaches the basics of college and the basics of the student's particular field of study. (The newbie tech taking level 1 IT calls.)

The master's degree helps to focus the student more within the field of study and to get them moving forward in applications of that field and/or research. (The more advanced tech taking level 2 and escalated calls and possibly working QA.)

The doctoral degree shows the student has reached a level of "expert" within a narrow area of inquiry within their chosen field. (The SME/instructor/manager.)

I was driving through the TCCCCCCCCC campus (I miss calling it TaCoJaCo) and was thinking how I'd love to take another class. To just stop this work thing and spend like 6 hours a day learning new skills.

I'd like to get more into Pattern Recognition. Basically, I want to understand how we go from being babies that are bombarded by all manners of noise (both auditory and visual, as well as all the other senses) to adults that can comprehend *everything*, and then of course see how that applies to AI.

Do we need to start daisy chaining computers?

Well, right now I'm the IT equivalent of the newbie tech taking level 1 calls. Let's wait until I get closer to SME before we start housing a computer farm. :)
