The Moment

In my mind, the DW wiki entry regarding The Moment is incomplete.

I think it would be a wonderful addition to the DW mythos if someone pointed out the following:

1) The Moment was created to be THE SOLUTION when all other options have failed.

The biggest part of this description could include the idea that others have assumed this to mean it's a weapon, but in actuality the solution to a problem must not always require a weapon. This harkens back to the basic premise of Doctor Who in that he never carries a weapon and instead opts for alternative solutions.

2) There's a misconception that the Doctor never activated The Moment.

The Moment WAS activated when it began interacting with him. All of its interaction with him was part of the building up of The Moment - the creating of THE SOLUTION.

3) 1st Corollary: The Doctor never deactivated The Moment.

When the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to send the Big Red Button back into the box, the "moment" had already come to pass. That moment was when the Doctor changed his mind. Even The Moment commented, "Now you're getting it."

4) 2nd Corollary: It could be stated that once The Moment has been activated, it cannot be deactivated.

By definition, a moment exists or it does not.

Ultimately, the goal of The Moment would be to bring the operator into That One Moment of Clarity in which THE SOLUTION can come to him, not in which The Moment itself provides the solution. The Doctor's presumed solution prior to activating The Moment was to cause catastrophic devastation, but that was not THE SOLUTION. It was a possible solution that the Doctor had already worked out prior to the activation of The Moment. What he was seeking was not catastrophic devastation (although killing off all the remaining Daleks did still occur), but an alternative solution, THE SOLUTION, that he could not see on his own without the aid of The Moment.

----------------

I think redefining The Moment as something that, while capable of being a "Galaxy Eater" weapon, is much more than "just another weapon" would add a level and depth of dimension to The Moment that it previously didn't have.
