Update

Warning: More computer geek talk ahead.
Also, Tom is life saver. Not sure what flavor, though. I'll leave that for Jeanne to decide.

- XP didn't like the rebuild and refused to load, so I had to reinstall XP.

- The system balked at the RAID drivers this go round, so I'm sticking with the server backup and having an additional drive for storage, instead of two RAID1 drives.

- ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? Apparently the two hard drives were read as unformatted, so DOS skipped them during the assignment process. The two card readers got assigned drive letters C and D, and the CD/DVD assigned E. The first hard drive was assigned F when XP was loading. Now my graphics card driver can't properly save even after changing the primary path name, because it still defaults some behind-the-scenes paths that it won't allow me to adjust. I really don't feel like having to change the default path for every single install I ever do, so tonight I'll disconnect the readers, format the second hard drive (as it's still unformatted and unallocated), and reinstall XP yet again, and cross my fingers that the driver letters right themselves out this time.

- I had forgotten about formatting drives, as it's been so long since I actually had to format one. Damn that makes me feel old, as when I say format a drive I'm mostly thinking of formatting a floppy, rather than a hard drive or thumb drive.

- Tom clued me in on the fact that my XP Pro won't allow me to use the 8GB RAM, so I've been fretting over spending the money to get Windows 7. Then he reminded me that I gave him the disk for the XP Pro 64 back when we did the previous build. This makes the reinstall much more worth it now.

- I'm worried that since Murphy seems to be playing havoc with me right now that something is going to prevent me from restoring my files from the server. I'll be using my laptop to check to see if I can at least verify that the files are still intact before formatting that second hard drive. If I can't verify the files, them I'm going to be pulling that second drive out, hooking it up to another computer, and doing a whole lot of copy/pasting.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Gonads and Strife.
