This is just to get my desktop back up and running after two weeks now, so I know I could have upgraded everything to a much better level and spent $1k instead of $400 (Mmm 8-core and 64GB, how I drool at thee), but I'm content. I forgot that my year-end bonus and December's bonus checks were manual, and still undeposited, so that's happily covering this build. I really didn't have that to spend right now either, but I'm not in the mood to fight my old motherboard to get it to post and not start overheating again. (If anyone's interested in adopting, I'll post the specs below behind a cut.) Now to hope everything starts up okay.

[I'm using Newegg links just because I know they are going to be more stable and stick around long after the items are discontinued, but I otherwise bought everything at Micro Center in the Dallas/Plano area. The motherboard and processor had a special $40 combo discount applied that I wasn't expecting, so that was nice, and not having to wait for delivery is always worth it.]

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5
AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor (black edition, although I'm not sure if there is a non-black edition of the 6100)
Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

For now, I'm keeping my 2-SLI GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16, as again, this was an unexpected upgrade, so I'm only piecemealing it for the time being.

Really, if someone wants to mess around with this to get it working again and have themselves a good, but old, gaming system, shoot me a message and I'll be willing to give it away to a good home. You'll have to supply your own power, hard drive, graphics card(s) and case.

All purchased 7/29/07 via Newegg.

ASUS Striker Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX
The LCD poster display is borked. I have a post card currently attached to the board that you can use, but I would like to have back, but honestly, it doesn't say much about why the system won't post. There's multiple common post problems with this board that I found online, and in theory, if the high temps didn't fry the processor, then the board should still be fine - once it finally does post, that is. I also still have the manual and all the goodies it came with, as, in case you forgot, I'm a little bit OCD.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
This puppy hit up to 177 degrees before I finally shut the system off. I know my case desperately needed to be aired out, two major front screens were completely covered in a thick layer of dust and cat dander, and one major case fan that's supposed to push out the heat from the power wasn't running. The goal was to see if just restoring air flow would fix the temp issue, but I never could get the board to post after hooking it back up. This chip may be dead, and Newegg does still sell the 775, but I opted for a new system over a replacement chip.

2 x (= 4GB RAM) of Wintec AMPX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
They just aren't DDR3, so they can't port over to the new shiny motherboard. Shouldn't be anything wrong with them.
