My lower back pain hit an all-time high this past couple weeks, and has been excruciating these past few days. I can't bend forward. I can't reach my feet to put on my socks and shoes. Sitting hurts. Getting in and out of the car requires coordination to keep my back from kinking up. I discovered on Wednesday that I can swing a hammer and yank and pull on bathroom shower tiles and dry wall for demolition, but I couldn't lift my leg enough to get it over the edge of the tub without major pain nor reach down to empty my shoe of tiny porcelain shards. It's a good thing that right now I have a walk-in shower.
I went to the chiropractor Saturday. After he adjusted me, I tried to bend forward a little bit and fell backwards onto the table when my back seized back up. He added ice and e-stim to the area before I left, but in all, I don't think the adjustment did anything to help.
Yesterday I saw my doctor's assistant, and she prescribed Tramadol, which I've started this evening. After about 30 minutes I was starting to feel better, but still had some trouble moving. After about an hour I almost can't feel that there is anything wrong with my back except for ever so slightly faint residual pain when I bend in a way that I know would have caused it to seize a couple of hours ago, so it's definitely working.
My biggest worry is that without the pain to indicate something is wrong, I'm going to cause more problems with the area. I'll have to be careful and try to keep myself from lifting heavy things and not bending over too much while on this medication.
