Ghost in the Book

Are you familiar with the movie The Ghost and Mrs. Muir? I would totally read the book that Mrs. Muir pens in that movie. It would have been great if the writers were able to write even just a compendium of the Captain's tales. I wonder if the movie was based on a real book of that nature that might exist somewhere, or if it was just the general idea of old sea-side tales.
