Both good news and bad.
My left eye that was poked in class a couple weeks back was fine for my eye appointment today. The good news is that the blurriness I've been seeing over the past year with my glasses is because my left eye has actually gotten a lot better. It was painfully obvious how much more blurry the glasses made the letters for that eye. The doctor says my habit of only wearing my clear glasses as little as possible is apparently doing well for me, and to keep up the good work. Sunglasses are still a must, but mostly because of the damned Day Star. (Literally - I have freckles on one of my eye balls, which are affected by sunlight just like any other freckle on my body.)
I still have astigmatism with otherwise almost perfect vision, which makes my eyes kind of a rarity, although not completely unheard of. If anything, the fact that this is the second time in my life my eyes have gotten better makes my eyes even more odd. At age 5 or 6 I was prescribed glasses that I never wore, because they gave me headaches while reading. A year later my eyes were 20/20. That was chalked up to slow physical development of the eyes.
So, the bad news is, I need to update my lenses in my glasses, which of course will cost a bit of money. This was why I put off going to get my eyes re-checked for 4-5 years - I didn't want the added expense. In this case, since the prescription is actually better and there's a noticeable difference in the left eye, I really can't put this off.
