In Memory of H.M.
Aug. 29th, 2009 05:18 pmThe irony is built into the title.
As a neuroscience and A.I. student, I too have researched the significance of the mind of Henry Gustav Molaison (H.M.). He is the source reference for both of the characters of Leonard and Sammy Jenkins in the movie Memento. He is by no means the only person who has experienced this particular type of brain damage, but he is the most documented.
H.M., Phineas Gage, and patients who have undergone corpus callosum separation are to me perhaps THE most important patients so far in the history of neuroscience.
So, needless to say, this news absolutely rocks in my world view of things.
