Long-Term Goals
May. 17th, 2009 11:33 amSince I was a child, I have had a singular long-term goal. To see Halley's comet upon it's next return visit. I'll be around 85 years old then, and will hopefully still have my eyesight well enough. I have had no other goals like wealth, power, family. Only Halley.
I've decided on another either short- or long-term goal, which is completely out of my control yet still perhaps possible. I want to be around when the predicted next HUGE earthquake hits LA, which may supposedly be within my lifetime. Perhaps you think this goal sadistic because people will die, but it's not like they haven't had fair warning. I always face the potential power of a destructive tornado where I live, and if I die in a massive tornado that makes it's way onto the internet as one of the most beautifully filmed tornadoes known to man, then so be it. Tsunamis are a bit less predictable, but you are always at risk if you live near a coast. I think the same of earthquakes. I don't think it's so horrible of me to actually want to witness the destruction that will ensue. If we didn't want to see the destruction, the camera men wouldn't be so keen on busting their way into the heart of New Orleans to try and capture death and devastation for others to see if others weren't so enamored with the images.
I also don't go near rallies, because I know the power of human destruction over self and the mentality of mobs. I'll still watch the beatings on TV when they come about.
