My new graphics card works too well

I purchased a new graphics card so that I could play Call of Cthulhu and some other games. After not doing a single thing to upgrade my system in four years, I'm damn proud of the choices in hardware I made back then. The next big purchase will end up being a whole new computer, but I'm trying to milk this one as long as possible. It's always a game that forces me to upgrade. I purchased this system because my previous 700Mhz Gateway almost died when I tried playing Earth and Beyond. I hadn't had any trouble until the Deep Ones decided to make some guest appearances in a virtual world.

Anyway, back to the graphics card. It's working perfectly for the new games, as it should. I wanted to see a comparison of the new card versus the old, an option that the new game does not provide. I knew that a couple of boards in Star Wars Battlefront had some lag issues, so I pulled that out to play a little last night. Oh boy, was I ever surprised.

The water alone in the Kashyyyk Docks board just about floored me. There are so many different colors of reflection (I have now decided that "reflection" is a color from here on out) that I couldn't even begin to count the various shades of blue in the water. Before, you couldn't even tell that there was water. Whenever I get near a checkpoint there is a colorful glow to the room that wasn't there before. I now have shadows as well. I no longer have the god awful lag on boards that contain forest scenes, namely Kashyyyk Islands, Yavin 4 Temple, and Endor.

So why do I state that it works too well? Because now the opposing team respawns faster, moves with a quickness, reacts quicker to being shot, and SIMPLY WILL NOT DIE. The Jedi heros are actually worth a damn now (provided they don't get themselves stuck behind a wall or in the water, because they are still stupid like that). Before I would just jump over them since they were too slow to hit me with their swing. Now, I get torn in half mid-jump. I couldn't understand why a friend hadn't moved out of the Easy mode, nor why there seemed to be such a sadistic jump between the Medium and the Hard modes. Where I was once winning about 45 out of 50 boards, I think I won 2 out the 6 or 7 that I played last night and they were always close calls. Now I've got a game that is going to finally start giving me a challenge.

Yeah for upgrades!

On a totally unrelated note, here's a quick link about what Congress is doing regarding estate taxes and minimum wage. I'm surprised by the fact that this was originally printed in our own local Fort Worth newspaper which tends to otherwise pamper the rich and all their little goings on.
