The cost of free food
May. 12th, 2006 01:12 pmSo, the dinner wasn't horrible, although it wasn't dinner but a lot of sampler plates instead. That was fine because they at least ordered plenty for everyone. Somehow I ended up with the Executive's 3 year old daughter in my lap. How is it that children always manage to exploit the fact that I really am cool with kids despite how much I try to hide it?
One of the guys' birthday is tomorrow, so the staff brought out a delicious ice cream brownie thing of goodness and then sang "Happy Birthday" On The Border style. Oh, the brownie was so warm and chocolately. A couple people also bought the Dolce de Lec..something Cheesecake which was also very tasty.
The best part was when I managed to have a huge piece of quesadilla in one hand and a knife covered with sour cream in the other just as the people on either side of me reached to hold my...elbows...so that we could bless the food. I wasn't about to put my quesadilla down. I was blessing my quesadilla my own way by adding the sour cream when they had to interrupt me. Can't I say that they were intruding somehow on my own personal beliefs: that good food must be partaken as quickly as possible once it has been placed in front of you?
I didn't last too long at The Church last night. Too damned tired. I'm actually a bit surprised I went at all. It really was a last minute effort. Luckily the guys racing their cars around me helped keep me awake for the drive home and the couple of drinks that I had helped me sleep like a baby.
