Per German book:
"Say A as in Modern

For the short a, assume a British accent and make the sound of the vowel in the back of your throat. Say: cast, fast."

My interpretation:
There's no fucking A in the word modern, and if you are properly pronouncing it, the O in modern, funny enough, sounds like an 'o'. Go figure.

I'm a native Texan. Do you have any idea how funny my British accent sounds? And why am I assuming a native British accent to learn German anyway?

Finally, in my world, cast and fast sound nothing at all like modern.

I think I'm better off learning Pikey. At least then it won't matter what I sound like, and the instructions will somehow make sense.
