Apparently I have made [livejournal.com profile] warrick's month. I made some Death-By-Chocolate fudge and allowed him to eat a piece off of my stomach. I also managed to freak out my neighbor by mentioning a web site tailored to those interested in rope bondage. Last night was quite an interesting one. Hm, Corona, Sex on the Beach, 2 Rum and Cokes. I think that was it - not a lot at all, but enough. I wasn't near as bad as a couple of days ago when I got home from the bar around 6 or 7pm and just passed out. Literally. Of course that was after a full day of McNair stuff (see below).

In other news, I managed to make it through the McNair week from hell Institute. This involved me going to a class from 9am-12noon Mon-Fri of this week and reading about articles and listening to speakers regarding research. Things mentioned were along the lines of taking advantage of chance occurrences, understanding plagiarism and figuring out the ramifications of corporate sponsorship versus government grants. Blah. Considering that my schedule prior to this week consisted of me staying up until any where from 2am-6am and not waking up until somewhere between 12noon and 4pm, having to make myself stay awake for the three hours of bullshit interesting discussions was a small means of torture.

Even worse was having to sit through an additional three hours on Wednesday of bullshit lessons regarding the GRE test. Lucky us: we have get to do this every Wednesday afternoon for the next 10 weeks or so. I must admit that this will be the most beneficial, but they could easy just give me the handouts and send me on my merry way to study them in the comfort of my home rather than in the ice box that they call a classroom. (I know I get cold easily, but everyone was complaining of the temperature this time; not just me.) Not to mention that once we get past the Verbal stuff and into the Math I will probably have to take a pillow along with me to keep my head from making loud sounds when it keeps crashing into the desk.

Next week is the time to buckle down and really dig into the lab work. The good thing about it though is that I can get back onto my own schedule and work say 12noon-7pm which is much more to my liking. I had to present my research proposal to the other McNair students today and (IMO) I did horrible. I had an idea in my mind what to talk about but rambled on about the wrong things. I hit the 10 minute limit and still hadn't really mentioned the cognitive tests that I will be giving the participants. I mentioned a lot about the neural networks and how artificial intelligence somehow ties in to the dyslexia research I will be running. My head was throbbing (um, yeah hangovers will do that to ya) and I didn't prepare any kind of outline other than what was in my head. The other students I asked said it seemed that I was well prepared, but I didn't feel too great about it.

I still have to get the GRE practice test uploaded to the Princeton Review web site and find out what my scores are. Damn computer is being obnoxious. I figure I should get some work done today and then look forward to a relaxing afternoon/evening of CyberPunk tomorrow. It will be nice to have something to get my mind off of this past week.

[livejournal.com profile] smokedamage and I will be going to Scarby on Monday and I will be very content wearing a velvet dress and corset lent to me by [livejournal.com profile] disgruntledgrrl. I'm so happy that I will have garb to wear. Church-wear I'm just fine on, but Renaissance has managed to elude me all this time. That's my only excuse for never going before.

The spare bedroom can now official be called both a spare bedroom as well as a study. I purchased a twin-sized air mattress. It's actually a double mattress which means that it sits as high as a regular bed, rather than being a mattress on the floor. I also got the softest sheets and throw for it. It wobbles a bit, but it will make a great spare bed and/or couch for watching movies. I like to think of myself as the hostess type (and I know some people are laughing right now), but being able to provide an extra sleep space for friends makes me quite content.
